The Teamsters Union struck for recognition of the union. Thirteen of their striking drivers returned to work under police protection and it was reported that auto loads of vandals visited the homes of these men at night and demolished windowpanes with brick and rocks. Anti-union forces marshaled against the strike and feated that, "Every industry and commercial business in Indianapolis will soon feel the effects of outside agitation, strikes, and violence."
