The eight story building was moved and reoriented in 1930 without disruption of water, electricity, gas or telephone services. The building was rotated 90 degrees and moved 52 feet south along North Meridian Street. The move began October 12 and lasted until November 14. The 600 workers were able to remain at work without facing interruption of electrical, sanitation and telephone service. The building trades unions in the city were instrumental in completing the project while keeping the building connected to all major utilities. International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 481 were one of several unions who supplied workers to the project.
