In early 1914, nearly 500 women came together and created The Union Cooperative Store, at which products made by union members and bearing the union label could be purchased. Proponents of the cooperative store wrote, "Now let us get together and do something for ourselves. Demand the union label on all our purchases, and take no substitute. No union label, no purchase."
