| Indianapolis was briefly home for the American Federation of Labor (AFL) during Samuel Gompers’ "sabbatical year" of 1895, when John McBride of the Mine Workers became president. Gompers resumed the presidency the following year and moved the headquarters away from Indianapolis within two years. | ||||
