A map highlighting the contributions of working people to the Indianapolis community.

Why a Labor History Map?
We use maps all the time to help us navigate our way through unfamiliar - or even familiar - landscapes and environments.  They help us answer...

This map is no different - it connects present-day locations to the people and events from our city's past.  The map highlights the contributions working people have made to Indianapolis - contributions we encounter every day.

How was the map done?
The map was researched using printed scholarship, archival resources, and most importantly, contributions from community members.  We found the best information came from people willing to share a story, a photograph, or historical materials for inclusion on the map.

How is the map organized? How can I best use it?
Sites are numbered in chronological order.  Yellow sites are on the county map, red on the downtown detail map.  There's no wrong way to use the map?

How can I learn more?
The web site has photographs and resources to help you further explore the sites shown on the map.  Also, each site can be commented upon by you or other members of the community to allow you to share your experiences about the labor sites in town.  Also, if you know of a labor history site not shown here - we'd love to hear from about it - make your suggestions through the "Suggest A Site" page.
